Gin Minsky NYC
Gin Minsky started hitting the stage with taps on her feet at the tender age of five and hasn’t looked back since. She got her start as a classically trained dancer studying jazz, ballet, pointe, tap and modern – but tap seemed to stick as she hit the back streets of New York City, working every cabaret and vaudeville show in town. She is now known as New York City’s premiere 1920s tapping burlesque performer.
Taking her lead from Bill “Bojangles” Robinson and Anita Berber, Gin can be seen performing across the stages of NYC, as well as coast-to-coast. With a short skirt and shorter hair, this flapper has been appearing dolled up and charming crowds in over 80 venues like the Philadelphia Museum of Art, P.S. 122, Joe’s Pub, Iridium Jazz Club, McKittrick Hotel, the Copacabana, The Darby, and the Highline Ballroom, to name a few. Gin has also been featured in the line-up of popular events including Dances of Vice, NYC Food & Wine Festival, The Salon, Tease-O-Rama, the Jazz Age Lawn Party and the “Oscars of Burlesque”, The Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekend.
Accomplished as a solo performer, Gin can also be found partnering with dance legend Roddy Caravella, the Champagne Riot’s Dandy Wellington, and as one half of the Minsky Sisters with Kristen Minsky. Gin’s own sensational brand of brisk and brilliantly beautiful tap majesty has been featured in the pages of the NY Times, The New Yorker, NY Post, Zelda Magazine, AM New York, Village Voice and Providence Pulse, as well as on the big screen in “Gin Town”. She is also a founder and producer of the vaudevillian collective The Champagne Riot.
With some hot jazz in the air and hooch in hand, this dame’ll give you an edge… and how! GinMinsky.com
Foxy Tann and the Wham Bam Thank you Ma’amsMinneapolis, MN
The first sighting of Ms. Tann was in 1997 at the Gay 90’s, opening The Superior Lounge, a 35-minute tour de force of camp, choreography and cheese, sporting a tag line of “Where the jokes are cheaper than the drinks!” For the next two years, every Tuesday night, and later 5 days a week, Foxy Tann honed her now infamous skills as the first and only female female impersonator to emcee at The Le Femme Show Lounge. Five shows and one of the most entertaining amateur drag shows later, the Jerome Foundation provided through their Performance Art Grant the first significant funding for the production of Miss Biracial Upper Midwest – 1984, an account of Foxy Tann’s start on the road that ends all roads, the road to stardom.
In 2004, after being hounded for years, The Fox again told the story of Miss Biracial during The Minnesota Fringe Festival to sold out audiences, making it one of the top 10 Fringe shows of the year. Now in between all these shows, The Fox has been seen emceeing and performing at everything from block parties to fundraisers to pageants to parades – including the infamous “brick toss” Loring Block Party! In 2006, The Fox’s first foray into the genre of burlesque happened when The Naughty Naughty Show: A Not So Nude Burlesque Revue was commissioned by the Seville Cabaret in Minneapolis and The Wham Bam Thank You Ma’ams were born. For six months, this weekly show upped the ante and put naughty back on its way to cult status. All that popularity had to lead to something and it did – “Best Troupe” and “Most Vegas” at Miss Exotic World 2006. Being the largest and most prestigious burlesque pageant on the planet, Miss Exotic World opened up doors to The Fox, performing with Margaret Cho in her burlesque review in LA, The Sensuous Woman, then traveling to London and performing to rave reviews on The West End with European burlesque sensation Immodesty Blaize, and then packing the house with Tease-O-Rama and Little Minsky’s both in San Francisco.
As the holidays of 2009 rolled around The Fox turned her eye toward “legitimate” theater, directing and choreographing Bedlam Theater’s BeaverDance! A Marxist Fur Trade Holiday Musical. Lately, she has concentrated on letting the world at large know that The Fox has arrived, traveling the festival circuit and performing in Denver, Chicago, Toronto, New York and Vegas, not to mention Eau Claire, Saint Paul, Madison and Milwaukee. Wherever she goes, The Fox is not forgotten! FoxyTann.net
